Amar Vora

Space Application Engineer, ESA – European Space Agency

Amar has spent over 6 years in the space industry, with experience in both the upstream and downstream sector.

Currently, he works within the European Space Agency’s (ESA) Business Applications team as a Space Applications Engineer, managing activities across several industries that develop applications utilising space-based data. In the transport domain, he actively manages several activities within the European railway sector, including the first European Demonstrator of a Train Control System based on the ERTMS Level 2 standard operating with satellite navigation and a satellite communications-based multi-bearer service. As well as managing activities in the railway domain, he has coordinated the establishment of the ESA Space4Rail initiative within the Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) department, setting up a framework of thematic areas and calls to enable the European railway industry to actively engage in the ESA BASS programme. Amar is also engaged in activities across several other satellite-based downstream domains, including the maritime, humanitarian and sports sectors.

Previously, Amar has worked at Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd., working on future satellite mission concepts primarily in the Earth observation and telecommunications domain and playing a key role in strategically defining telecommunications satellite solutions for the Company.
