Ruud van der Ploeg

Secretary General, EMTA

Ruud studied Dutch public and state low, specializing in common law in the eighties. Working as legal policy advisor he was involved in the governance of the design of the Dutch part of the High Speed line. He has experience in structuring the market for bus and rail transport on regional, provincial and municipality level.
Since 1998 he works for the Amsterdam Transport Authority where he helped pave the road for introduction of bus tender procedures and contracting, as well as railway services and planning.
Since 2013 Ruud is nominated as secretary general of the EMTA (European Metropolitan Transport Authorities) platform. EMTA consists of 27 metropolitan transport authorities in larger European cities for which he manages the advocacy of common interests and brings together experts from transport disciplines. He supports the process of data collection that is annually carried out by members to publish the EMTA Barometer. On behalf of EMTA he is involved in a broad range of policy advice, dissemination and analysis of transport research and studies.
Ruud represents EMTA in consultations for transport innovation and benchmarking projects.
