Mark Westwood
CTO, Transport Systems Catapult
Mark was educated at the University of Bath, graduating with a BEng and MSc in Mechanical Engineering.
Mark has over ten years’ technical expertise in connected and autonomous vehicle technologies, vehicle guidance, mission management systems, high precision satellite navigation, inertial sensor applications and aerodynamics.
At QinetiQ, Mark was a Theme Leader for Autonomy and Decision Making within the ASTRAEA UAS project, a £62M collaborative project between industry and TSB/Innovate UK which targeted development of technologies to enable the operation of UAVs within civil airspace.
In 2010, he was appointed as Head of Systems Engineering for Air Division within QinetiQ, responsible for a team of Systems Engineers working across a wide range of technology projects.
Moving to the Transport Systems Catapult in 2015, Mark currently holds the role of Chief Technology Officer, with responsibility for development and delivery of the Technology Strategy, directing a portfolio of programmes including Connected and Autonomous Transport, Open Data and New Mobility Services.
