Counter-Terrorism Consultant, Editor-in-Chief, CBNW Xplosive

Andy Oppenheimer AIExpE MIABTI is a UK-based independent analyst and author in counter-terrorism and CBRNE (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear weapons & explosives). He is Editor-in-Chief of two specialist defence journals on CBRN and counter-IED, CBNW (Chemical, Biological & Nuclear Warfare) and CBNW Xplosive.

He is a Member of the International Association of Bomb Technicians & Investigators and an Associate Member of the Institute of Explosives Engineers. His first book, ‘IRA: the Bombs and the Bullets’ (Irish Academic Press, 2008), is acknowledged as the seminal work on the military campaign of the Irish Republican movement; his second major title on Counter-IED, ‘Countering Explosive Weapons of Terrorism’, is under construction.

He is the Module Author of IEDs: Threats & Countermeasures and CBRN Weapons in Terrorism for the St Andrews’ University’s Advanced Certificate in Terrorism Studies. From 2006-08 he was Editor of Jane’s Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Defence and in 2004-05, Co-editor of Jane’s World Armies.

Since 2001 he has written hundreds of articles for specialist defence and security journals as a Subject Matter Expert, having served as WMD consultant for Jane’s Consultancy Group and Oxford Analytica. He gives regular media appearances as an interviewed expert, provides consultancy for films and documentaries, and presents at conferences, workshops and professional seminars worldwide on counter-terrorism and CBRNE.
