Rajendra Akerkar is a professor of IT at Western Vestlandsforsking, Norway, where he leads big data research team. His primary domain of activities is ubiquitous data and semantic technologies with aim to combine strong theoretical results with high impact practical results. In 1997, he founded the Technomathematics Research Foundation (TMRF) in India. As founder of TMRF, he is instrumental in ensuring that the Foundation lends a platform for research exchange. He serves as an expert for many government/non-government agencies, including the European Commission, as expert evaluator of proposals and reviewer of running major funded projects. His research and teaching experience includes over 26 years in the Academia spanning different universities in Asia, Europe and North America. He received DAAD fellowship in 1990 and also received prestigious BOYSCASTS Young Scientist award of Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, in 1997. From 1998 – 2001, he was UNESCO-TWAS associate member at Hanoi Institute of Mathematics, Vietnam. He was also DAAD visiting professor at Universität des Saarlandes and University of Bonn, Germany in 2000 and 2007 respectively. In 2013, he was visiting professor of Web Intelligence at Université Jean Monnet, France. He also held an appointment as adjunct professor at University of Oslo. In 2004, he started the International Journal of Computer Science & Applications (IJCSA), which has now become the premier open access publication in the field of computer science. He is also serving as an Associate Editor of International Journal of Metadata, Semantics and Ontologies (IJMSO), and Knowledge Management Track Editor of Web Intelligence, an international journal. He is actively involved in several international ICT initiatives, and research & development projects for more than 18 years. In 2010, he has initiated world wide network on Web Intelligence, Mining and Semantics.
