The municipality of Bursa assigned the contract to extend the city railway system in both, north and western directions to an additional length of eight kilometers. The new line with its eight stations allows new residential areas to be accessible, including the University of Bursa. Within the framework of a consortium for the overall project the Tewet Group undertook the planning, delivery and integration in the field of electrical engineering. Railtrade GmbH, a member of the Tewet Group, assumed the design, the procurement and ‘just in time ‘delivery of the necessary system components and thereby assured a sustainable and independent solution which meets current safety and technological requirements.

The project features outstanding technical specifications in the field of signalling systems. For technical and economical reasons a complete solution with a ‘state of the art’ technology was provided. This applies to the depot, which with this opportunity was enlarged to a capacity of 100 vehicles and equipped with a new BTH interlocking, monitor and control system. In the line the old interlocking was substituted and four new interlockings supplemented. Railtrade provided for the new vehicles, which Bursa Ray acquired within the framework of the extension project, the train radios and parts of the trainborne signalling equipment. A successful assessment and safety audit was performed pertaining to the new system technology for the first three stations and signed off by the independent safety authority TÜV.

Railtrade’s scope of supply and services contains amongst others the delivery of telecommunication systems and of a new digital trunk radio system (TETRA). The integration of the TETRA system to the new vehicles as well as the modification of the old vehicles to the system is also part of the project. A modern IP based public address (PA) system was introduced and provides all functions for digital playback, scheduling, telephone interface and interfaces to the signalling system. Furthermore a Central Master Clock system was installed and is synchronized by GPS receiver. Railtrade cooperates with future-oriented suppliers and manufacturers, who produce high quality products. The stations were equipped with state of the art escalators. A modern IP based CCTV system (incl. surveillance cameras with 1.3 megapixel) was integrated in the stations.

The shown performance and accomplishment demonstrates the extremely successful project for Railtrade and the Tewet Group.
