The public trials of six autonomous vehicles in Oxford form part of Project Endeavour's programme which shall run until autumn 2021, with live tests in three major UK cities.
The project aims to allow the Council to evaluate its existing fleet and assess its strategy for electrification based on usage, range, emissions, costs and suitable electric replacement.
The plans are said to follow a year of increasing focus locally, nationally and globally about the harmful impact of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) emissions from vehicles, and follows the recognition of the global climate emergency.
The PickMeUp on-demand bus operation in Oxford has exceeded expectations in its first nine months of operation and is set to expand with extra buses and additional staff to meet demand.
